A tale of two songs. Imagine that you and your buddy comprise the rap group 95 South. in 1993, you get to working with producers and fellow Jacksonville musicians the Bass Mechanics, who later would also be known as the 69 Boyz and the Quad City DJ's. Ya'll put together a bump called "Whoot There It Is." It's got a hot 90's sound that these producers are about to blow up with. (See Tootsee Roll, Come on Ride The Train, Space Jam, etc.) Things are lookin' great for ya. You release the single and at the same time its charting, Tag Team, from just a little further south in Miami, releases "Whoomp! (There It Is)" which has a different drum pattern, way different flow, but pretty much samples your hook in entirety. You had to have known it was over as soon as you hear Tag Team back again... and we all know the rest. Tag Team's version finished 1993 at number 2 on the billboard charts, got remade by the gd Addams Family (The Addams Family!?!?), Mickey Minnie and Goofy, and is played at sporting events for the rest of eternity. Your version...well it finishes 1993 at number 44 and nobody knows your name.
