Friday Throwback: Jay-Z - Heart of the City
Can you believe this track is only ten years old? Does anybody remember that this album dropped on 9/11? More importantly, can we put out an APB on 2001 era cut-up-soul-beats Kanye West. I got a lot to say about MBDTF, maybe so much so that it deserves its own post. Back to the point though, Blueprint was a masterpiece of Jay-Z, Kanye, and Just Blaze who put together an incredible tracklist at a time when hip-hop was drowning under the weight of Ja Rule's endlessly boring sing-songy collaborations with gd J-Lo or some shit like that. Seriously, Blueprint featured the Kanye tracks Takeover, Izzo (H.O.V.A.), Heart of the City, and Never Change Then sick tracks from Just Blaze(Song Cry, You Don't Know, and Girls, Girls, Girls) plus spots from Timbaland and the Trackmasters (who I thought were ridiculously hot when I was in high school) every time I put it on my mp3 player I was scared I would get popped for possession of dope.
